About Us

Moyra Stephen has owned Cardinal Nannies & Caregivers Inc. for 35 years, since she recognized a need for reliable, quality in-home care for her own family and others. Initially offering services in the Durham region, today, Cardinal Nannies & Caregivers serves Durham region, Northumberland County, the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.  Moyra is still the owner and President, and Cardinal continues to fill those needs, providing quality in-home care for children, seniors, and those with special needs or health issues.  As Covid has taught us all, we need to take better care of our children, and our seniors and more vulnerable citizens.

OUR OFFICE STAFF

Our General Manager Sue is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Cardinal. She has been with Cardinal now for over 16 years and is happy to answer any questions you may have regarding our services or job opportunities.  Kim, our Office Assistant, has been with Cardinal for over 2 ½ years. She is our I.T. expert and assists with the daily operations.  Sheila returned to us 8 months ago, after having worked for Cardinal many years ago. She also assists with ongoing administrative needs. 

The office is open Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm, but one of the team is always available, on call, 24/7 in any emergency or with any urgent requests.

OUR NANNIES AND CAREGIVERS

Cardinal Nannies and Caregivers are honest, reliable, professional caregivers who are experienced and caring people.  In choosing to work for Cardinal, they have chosen to work one-on-one with our clients, rather than in a group situation.  We believe this results in greater job satisfaction for our caregivers, choice of hours, and enables us to keep long-term, experienced people on staff.

Many of our caregivers have degrees, including: Early Childhood Education (ECE), Early Childhood Assistant (ECA), Child and Youth Worker (CYW), Social Service Worker (SSW), Developmental Service Worker (DSW), Personal Support Worker (PSW) Health Care Aid (HCA), and Registered Practical Nurse (RPN).

We recruit from local communities for our live-out positions, and across Canada for our live-in positions.  We have also placed many nannies from Quebec in live-in positions in Ontario.  This has been a successful cultural exchange, as the French speaking nannies tutor the children in French while improving their English skills.

  • Cardinal Nannies & Caregivers Inc. follow all government standards and guidelines.
  • We invoice bi-weekly and provide receipts for income tax purposes.
  • We are registered with the Worker’s Safety Insurance Board (WSIB), and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
  • We have full Liability Insurance Coverage.
  • We also service special-needs Government Contracts and Insurance Claims.
  • We are a member of Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB).
